A new session of small group Bible study is starting up on August 21st. The topic will be going over the book “The Case for Faith” by Lee Strobel, and will meet twice a month in Waunakee on Sunday evenings for about 60 – 90 minutes. It’s very casual, and a good opportunity to meet some of your fellow Christian brothers and sisters. Please contact the church office if you have any questions or would like to join.
Kids are welcome, and babysitting will be available!
TOPICAL BIBLE STUDY FOR GRADES 5-8- All children of grades 5-8 in our school and congregation are invited to join a topical bible study led by Deaconess Anne Heller. This youth bible study will begin on September 11th at 9:15 am in room 122. We look forward to seeing you and to study God’s word together.
During the turmoil in the years that immediately followed the posting of his 95 theses, Dr. Martin Luther wrote one of the most significant documents in the history of the Christian church entitled The Freedom of the Christian. After his Small Catechism, it is considered by many to be his greatest work. He sent it as an attachment to a letter to Pope Leo X. Whether the pope personally ever read it is unknown, but it certainly would have shocked him if he had. It completely trashed the Roman Catholic system of work righteousness.
That most Lutherans are unfamiliar with this document is a tragedy for the church because the document clearly explains how Christians should live their lives as a result of their faith in Christ’s redemption. To give its members a chance to study this treasure of the Lutheran church, Eastside will present a 4-week class on The Freedom of the Christian as part of the preparation for the 500th celebration of the Reformation. The classes will be taught by Dr. Arthur Eggert on Sunday evenings beginning September 11 and will be held from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.
A copy of The Freedom of the Christian will serve as the textbook for the course and be available to those taking the course prior to the first session. Further handouts for studying the material will be available at each session.

In 1529 Dr. Martin Luther published his Small Catechism so that fathers could use it to teach their children the chief doctrines of the Christian faith. Even those with limited schooling could learn the information in this book. Through constant repetition, the children, and the adults as well, would learn the critical elements of the Christian faith.
Luther realized that if people’s faith was to withstand the attacks of Satan, they would need deeper explanations of Christian doctrines. Pastors also would need to know how to further train adults in these doctrines. Therefore, in the same year Luther also published his Large Catechism, which fleshed out the skeleton he presented in the Small Catechism.
Eastside will present an 8-week Bible class on Luther’s Large Catechism. The goal is to provide answers to questions people have concerning Biblical teachings and to foster a deeper appreciation of the Christian faith. The class will begin on Sunday October 9. It will be held from 6:30 to 8:00 pm and be taught by Dr. Arthur Eggert.
The textbook for the course is called The Large Catechism and is available from CPH for $12.00.

Perhaps one of the most misunderstood books in the entire Scriptures, this course will attempt to familiarize the student with this last book of the Bible. The purpose of this study will be to strengthen our faith by what is revealed within: God’s wrath and judgment and also his promise of grace and salvation. The central message is that in a world of violence in which Satan tries to defeat God’s plan of salvation and us; Jesus wins the battle against Satan and so we win.
Sunday, October 9th at 9:15 am in the Fellowship Hall
This is a spiritual growth opportunity for members who wish to review the basic teachings of the Bible and for those seeking to learn more about what we teach at Eastside on the basis of what the Bible declares. This is also a step to membership at Eastside for those who wish to grow in their hope in Jesus. The focus of this opportunity of study is to understand the Hope of eternal life and our purpose in this world. The bible tells us that God, the Father, has saved us through his Son Jesus Christ. We can be sure of God’s love each day in our life. Come and join us.
