Eastside Lutheran School and Preschool Receives Exemplary Accreditation
On April 8-10 the accreditation visitation team visited Eastside to validate the self study that was completed. The self study and visitation team look at fifteen areas:
- The School’s Mission and Its Implementation
- The School’s Relationship with the Congregation(s)
- The School’s Relationship with the Home
- The School’s Relationship with the Students
- The School’s Relationship with the Community
- The School’s Relationship with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS)
- The School’s Plans for Enrolling Students
- School Climate
- School Governance and Administration
- Professional Personnel (faculty and support staff)
- Curriculum
- Instruction
- Student Services (activities, guidance, health and safety, food services)
- Physical Facilities
- Information Management (personnel, student records, financial, accreditation, data backup)
There are different levels of accreditation. There are a total of 280 of which 117 have to be met to be accredited. These 117 standards are starred. A provisional accreditation is given when their is at least 85% of the standards met, but one or more of the starred standards is not complete. A period of time is given to get those standards up to date. Accreditation is given if 85% of the standards are met. Exemplary accreditation is given if 95% of the standards are met.
The visitation team looked at documentation, observed, and interviewed many people in order to carry out their work. Their purpose was to help us become a better school by identifying our strengths and showing areas where we can improve. The visitation team shared their commendations of our strengths of which there were many. At the top of the list of strengths was school climate and culture and the relationship with the students. The visitation team shared a number of recommendations. These recommendations will become part of our five year plan and mission, vision, and objectives (MVO). All parents will have an opportunity to review the MVO at the first Partners In Education (PIE) meeting in the fall. Congregation members will be able to review the MVO as a part of the December voters meeting.
The last thing visitation team shared was that Eastside Lutheran School met 96% of the standards giving us the exemplary status. Please feel free to speak with Mr. Rank if you have any questions or would like further information. What a tremendous blessing God has given us in Eastside Lutheran School!
